Ukraine's drones strike Russia's ports and commercial warehouses, Kyiv appeals to the UN Security Council

Ukrainian drones have hit several warehouses of the Russian online retailer Wildberries and temporarily paralyzed the port of Novorossiysk, where Russia is no longer letting ships pass at night. Kyiv accuses Moscow of holding global food security hostage and is requesting an emergency session of the UN Security Council.

The Ukrainian drone war is increasingly targeting the Russian economy: according to reports by the BBC and the exile outlet Meduza (Russia), attacks within a few days hit several large warehouses of the online retailer Wildberries, whose operator promised compensation to sellers. According to Meduza, Russia imposed a nighttime ban on ship movements in the port of Novorossiysk after drone attacks. At the same time, the interpretation of the conflict is shifting: Kyiv accuses Moscow of holding "global food security hostage" with attacks on civilian cargo ships, and, according to the FAZ (Germany) and Le Monde (France), requested an emergency session of the UN Security Council. Serbian media such as B92, by contrast, quote residents of Crimea who complain that Ukrainian attacks have thrown them "back to the Stone Age," thus emphasizing the Russian perspective on destroyed infrastructure. The precise extent of the damage on both sides is only partly independently confirmed. The common core of the reports is that the war is increasingly being fought over economic and logistical targets.
