Chad has formally notified the United Nations secretary-general that it is leaving the International Criminal Court, a step that under the Rome Statute's one-year notice period takes effect in July 2027, according to Le Monde and TASS. Investigations already under way are not affected by the withdrawal. N'Djamena says it acted at the request of the United States, according to Le Monde, which does not indicate that Washington has confirmed that account. For now the withdrawal is a declaration of intent with a delayed legal effect: Chad remains a party to the Rome Statute until 2027, and the open cases touching it continue.
